Ceramic Infrared Emitters

The Vulcatherm range of ceramic infrared emitters uses iron, chrome, aluminium resistance wire embedded in a glazed refractory matrex, which protects the wire from atmospheric an corrosive attacks. In normal operating conditions, as a consequence of the protection given, emitter life, for most applications would be well in excess of 10,000 hours at 80% power.

The integral contact of wire and refractory matrix results in a uniform temperature being maintained over the surface of the emitter. Since the resistance format is in contact with the refractory material, infrared emission takes place from the outer surface and is generally characterized as a long wave. Incorporation of a thermocouple to sense emitter temperature within the emitter gives a basis for loop temperature control system by relating emitter temperature to product finish.
